How to Start Strength Training After 40

A simple approach to beginning resistance training without unnecessary complexity.

Start with movements you can control

Choose a small group of movements covering the major muscle groups and prioritize controlled technique. Bodyweight, bands, dumbbells and machines can all provide resistance.

Build gradually

Progress can come from repetitions, load, sets, range of motion or exercise difficulty. Rushing toward heavy loads is not required.

Health note: Exercise needs vary. If you have a chronic condition, disability, injury, or concerns about starting exercise, seek appropriate professional guidance.
